The incident occurred in Rockland County around 2:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14, at a building on Patriot Hills Drive in Stony Point.
According to Lt. Daniel Schoales of the Stony Point Police, officers responding to the building on a suspicious person call could power tools being used inside.
The officers, with help from Stony Point Police detectives and Rockland County Sheriff's deputies, were able to call two men out of the building without incident.
The officers searched the building and found several copper pipes were cut and removed.
They also recovered a large bundle of copper pipes, brass fittings, a battery-operated saw with extra batteries, and a headlamp.
Officers arrested Joseph P. Squillante, age 58, of Stony Point, and Matthew Daniels, age 18, also of Stony Point.
They were charged with:
- Burglary
- Possession of burglary tools
- Criminal mischief
- Possession of stolen property
- Trespassing
Both defendants were arraigned at the Stony Point Justice Court. Squillante was remanded to the Rockland County Jail due to previous felony convictions.
Daniels was released on his own recognizance with a later court date.
